Description

  • With abundant dainty, white flower clusters emerging in spring, foliage that takes on a range of hues across the year and delicious, blackcurrant-like berries, Amelanchier lamarckii is a tree that delivers in more ways than one.
  • Also known as the juneberry, this tree is as easygoing as it is tough, which is to say pretty bloomin' tough! With an RHS hardiness rating of H7, this striking tree will withstand even the worst British winters.
  • The multi-stemmed, well-branched architecture ensures great visual interest even when the tree is bare throughout the winter months.
  • Bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinating insects are attracted to this amelanchier's nectar-rich blossoms.
  • A recipient of the RHS's Award of Garden Merit, the snowy mespilus tree has been shown to perform especially well in British gardens.

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Rarely troubled by pests, may occasionally be impacted by fireblight.

Water well when establishing

Water your tree routinely throughout its first growing season to help it establish. Beyond this, water during hot, dry spells.

Full sun to partial shade

While this tree will grow well in both full sun and partial shade, full sun provides the best autumn colour.

Acidic or neutral, moist, well-drained soil

Grows well in most soils apart from alkaline.

Minimal feeding required

Most amelanchiers don't need any feeding, however if you think your tree is struggling a bit, then a springtime application of general-purpose, slow-release fertiliser can be helpful.
