The highlights

  • A domed, weeping tree
  • Medium tree – grows up to 4m
  • Gracefully cascading, deciduous foliage
  • Compact enough for smaller gardens

Description

  • This smaller, more weeping alternative to the traditional silver birch should be a feature of every garden in our opinion, just look how elegant it is!
  • With a compact, dome-shaped form and long, pendulous branches that will eventually sweep the ground, ‘Youngii’ offers something a little bit different to most other ornamental trees.
  • Growing to just four by four metres, this tree is the perfect specimen or feature tree for the heart of your lawn or the focal point for one of your flower beds.
  • Commonly known as Young's weeping birch, this tree boasts yellow-brown catkins and mid-green, triangular, serrated leaves that turn a warm yellow when autumn rolls around.
  • Silver birches are renowned for their wildlife appeal, providing food and shelter for over 300 different insect species, as well as hole-nesting birds like woodpeckers, and songbirds such as siskins – this variety offers all of those wildlife benefits but in a neat, little package!
  • Fully hardy and tolerant of most soil types and conditions, this tree is an absolute breeze to grow.
  • Just to top it all off, the tree’s peeling white bark provides great winter interest, making this a genuine year-round tree.
  • Our potted trees are supplied in EcoPots™. Eco pots use 70% less plastic and are fully recyclable, unlike normal single use pots. They flex and so produce less root spiralling and travel better in the post.
  • Our trees are usually between 18 and 36 months old at the time of dispatch.
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth.

Position in Full Sun (6h+) or partial shade

Moist but well-drained soil

Suits any soil type that is moist but well-drained

Prune Annually

Any pruning should be done when the tree is fully dormant, from late summer until early winter. If you prune in late winter or early spring when the sap is 'rising' this can cause heaving bleeding of sap and weaken or even kill the tree
