The highlights

  • Large grapes with a juicy and aromatic taste
  • Bunches half a kilo in weight (or heavier)
  • Eat straight from the vine or dry for raisins
  • Harvest from August to September

Description

  • An exceptional seedless variety, 'Supernova' produces brilliant bunches of dusky red grapes at the end of summer and into early autumn
  • Supernovas are gargantuan cosmic explosions and this grape variety yields fruits that are just as impressive!
  • The vine's ovoid grapes are wonderfully aromatic and possess a delicate, balanced flavour profile that's deliciously moreish
  • Bearing seriously chunky bunches, this variety is perfect for working up pergolas or training up a sunny, south-facing wall
  • Whilst we won't blame you for scarfing down the grapes straight from the plant, this variety is also excellent for making raisins, delectable jams and heavenly clafoutis
  • Hardy and resistant to common fungal diseases, this vine is an excellent option for those gardeners wanting to add a touch of the Mediterranean to their British garden

How To Grow

Excellent pest and disease resistance

Unlike certain other grape varieties, this variety has particularly good resistance to downy mildew and other fungal diseases.

Water well when establishing

Water 'Supernova' regularly during its first growing season to help it establish. Beyond this, it won't need watering as regularly, however you don't want the soil to dry out and a consistently moist soil is preferable. Container-grown grape vines will require more regular watering.

Full sun

Plant somewhere that your grape vine will receive at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day.

Any fertile, well-drained soil

Grape vines perform best in fertile soil that drains well. If your soil is naturally a bit heavy, then incorporate some organic matter to improve drainage.

Feed every spring

During the springtime, apply a high-potassium fertiliser at your grape vine's base. Container-grown grape vines will benefit from a more regular liquid feed throughout the growing season.
