The highlights

  • A beautifully weeping tree
  • Small tree - grows up to 3m
  • Single, magenta blossoms in spring
  • Perfect for pots and compact gardens

Description

  • A gracefully weeping variety of crabapple which is covered in beautiful red-purple flowers in April and May
  • All year round interest, with purple-bronze leaves in spring maturing to plum with a hint of green in late summer and turning golden yellow and bronze in autumn
  • Small dark purple crab apples appear in autumn and stay until winter
  • Not suitable for culinary use but the birds love them and will flock to your garden
  • Grow as a feature tree in a lawn or in wildlife gardens
  • Grows to only 3 x 3m and can be grown in pots
  • This variety is a valuable pollinator for early apple varieties
  • Pollution tolerant - ideal for urban gardens
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth.MORE

What To Expect

Supplied as:

Bare root
Our bare root trees are lifted fresh from the field and packed straight away. You can be sure they will be fresh when they arrive. In winter, you can store for several weeks if kept in a cool, dark spot. Later in spring, when the temperature rises, you will want to plant within a few days of arrival.
9L poly-pot
This tree is supplied in a 9L Poly-Pot, which is approx D15 x H30cm. Poly-Pots use 70% less plastic than traditional pots and can be recycled. A 9L pot allows ample space for good root development and can support a good size tree.

Height on arrival:

120-150cm
Depending on the time of year, your tree will arrive at a height between 120-150cm including pot.

How To Grow

Average pest and disease resistance

May need protection from aphids, woolly aphid, fruit tree red spider mite and caterpillars. It could also be affected by apple scab, apple cranker and powdery mildews. Be cautious of fire blight.MORE

A little watering when new

When newly planted, the trees would love a little watering at least once a month for the initial couple of months. Afterwards keep moist but well drained.

Full sun to partial shade

This crabapple tree loves full sun or partial shade in a sheltered location. Choosing a spot away from strong winds will allow all the tree's resources to go towards growing blossom and protecting its display.

Most fertile, well-drained soils

This tree will flourish in any moderately fertile, moist and well drained soil except for chalk.

Feed when first planted

After planting your tree add some fertiliser and cover with mulch to ensure all the water and nutrients get to the roots. Over time, replace the mulch and feed the tree with slow release fertiliser annually to help the plant maintain its growth and create a beautiful display of blossom. ?v=1613300929
