Description

  • A stunning new variety from Scotland, 'Rhapsody' is certainly worthy of its name. In fact, we reckon that Liszt, Gershwin and Freddie Mercury would all swoon over this super strawb in just the same way that we do here at Roots!
  • A mid to late-season variety, this summer-bearing strawberry produces large, highly flavourful strawberries that blow anything you can buy from the supermarket out of the water
  • Eat your strawberries straight from the plant, serve them with sugar and cream, or even whip up your own strawberry ice cream!
  • Alongside their iconic red fruit, strawberry plants also produce delightful white flowers
  • This is a versatile variety that can be grown in the ground, on the patio, in a window box or even in a hanging basket
  • A worthy recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, 'Rhapsody' is known for performing particularly well in British gardens
  • Recognised by the RHS as one of its Plants for Pollinators, planting strawberry plants will help attract more bees and butterflies to your outdoor space

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

While this variety shows resistance to certain diseases, like Verticillium wilt, it may still be affected by other problems like grey mould, aphids and slugs. Good plant hygiene and plentiful air circulation can reduce the risk of mould, while aphids can be washed off with soapy water and slugs stopped by surrounding your plant with a crushed egg shell barrier.

Water well when establishing

New strawberry plants need regular watering to help them establish properly. If the weather is hot and dry in spring or summer, then additional watering will be required.

Full sun

Plant in a full sunny position (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day).

Any fertile, moist, well-drained soil

Strawberry plants like a rich soil that's been amended prior to planting with organic matter like compost. They appreciate a moist soil that still has good drainage capabilities.

Feed every spring

If you're growing your strawberry plant(s) in the ground, then a springtime application of high-potassium fertiliser is recommended. Alternatively, if you're growing your strawberries in pots or hanging baskets, then a liquid application of tomato feed every couple of weeks (or so) will be helpful.
