The highlights

  • Content in both full sun and partial shade
  • Can be trained up a pergola or grown in a pot
  • Fragrant flowers from July to September
  • Brings pollinators to the garden

Description

  • Showy, extravagant white and purple passion flowers (measuring up to 10cm across) appear in the summer
  • This vigorous climber features saucer shaped flowers with lilac tinged white petals and lavender coronal filaments that have a thin band of white before darkening to a deep amethyst at their centre - striking doesn't even begin to cover it!
  • Features semi evergreen, shiny, lobed, forest green foliage which helps add interest throughout the year
  • The appearance of orange berries later in the year provides fabulous autumnal colour (the fruits are ornamental)
  • Train 'Purple Haze' as a feature plant up a sunny, sheltered wall, or grow in a pot on the patio
  • Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

How To Grow

Excellent pest and disease resistance

Resistant to honey fungus and generally resistant to disease in general. Watch out for red spider mites, mealybugs and whitefly and treat by wiping leaves with a soft moist cloth or gentle misting if they occur.

Water regularly during summer

Purple Haze' benefits from regular watering during the summer months, but doesn't need as much watering in the winter. Aim for moist but not waterlogged soil.

Full sun to partial shade

This plant prefers somewhere where it plant will receive at least 4-6 hours of sunlight per day. It thrives in a sheltered spot.

Fertile, moist and well drained soil

'Purple Haze' will grow well in virtually any soil type provided it's fertile, moist and drains well. Consider adding horticultural grit to improve your soil's drainage, if necessary.

Feeding rarely required

Feeding is not typically necessary for passiflora and can actually encourage excessive growth with fewer flowers.
