How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Generally pest and disease resistant, but may occasionally be susceptible to slugs, aphids or grey mould. For slugs and snails, protect plants with a barrier of copper wire, crushed shells or fine grit if affected. For aphids, check the leaves regularly for any possible infestation. If you see some, pick the bugs off by hand and spray the infected area with some soapy water. You can also plant a companion plant nearby, such as marigolds. These attract predatory insects such as ladybirds, that will eat the aphids. To prevent fungal infections like grey mould, ensure that the plants are properly spaced and the area around them is kept clean of debris and weeds. Also ensure you water at the soil and try to prevent splashing from the soil onto the leaves.

Water regularly during dry spells

Water well in dry spells - after an initial watering when planted, it shouldn't be needed in autumn and winter

Partial shade to full sun

Does best in dappled or partial shade but can cope with a few hours of direct sun.

Any moist soil

Thriving in any well-drained or poorly drained soil, this plant prefers neutral to acidic soil.

No feeding needed

This plant is a cheap date - it gets all the nutrients it needs from the soil.
