The highlights

  • Delightful clear-stemmed patio tree
  • Small tree - grows up to 1.5m (when pruned)
  • Dark green foliage turning orange in autumn
  • RHS Award of Garden Merit winner

Description

  • Crabapple jelly from your back doorstep?! Yep, you heard us right - with our 'Evereste' patio crabpple tree, you can grow your own tart crabapples, no matter how limited your space.
  • Alongside the puckering red-orange autumn fruits and enticing foliage, which takes on fierier hues come autumn, this variety produces absolutely glorious (and abundant) white blossoms in the spring.
  • With just a basic prune each winter, you can retain this tree's lovely, compact patio shape (at just a metre to a metre-and-a-half in height).
  • Recognised as one of the RHS's Plants for Pollinators, your tree will attract a range of pollinating insects, like bees and butterflies, as well as a variety of birds, including blackbirds and thrushes.
  • Alongside its wildlife credentials, 'Evereste' also boasts an Award of Garden Merit from the RHS, in recognition of its exceptional performance in British gardens.

How To Grow

Average pest and disease resistance

May need protection from aphids, woolly aphid, fruit tree red spider mite and caterpillars. It could also be affected by apple scab, apple cranker and powdery mildews.

Water regularly

Crabapple trees grown in pots require more watering than those grown in the open ground, especially throughout the growing season and during hot, dry spells.

Full sun to partial shade

Grows well in both full sun (at least six hours of direct sunlight per day) and part shade (between three and six hours of direct sunlight per day).

Moist, well-drained compost

Your patio crabapple tree will benefit from being planted in moist, well-drained compost (something soil-based like John Innes No. 3 is a good choice).

Feed in spring

At the start of spring, give your patio crabapple tree a feed with general-purpose fertiliser. Alternatively, apply a balanced liquid feed every fortnight throughout the growing season.

Europe

Meet Josh's trusted specialists

Start with a touch of continental sun

Over 99% of our plants are grown in the UK, but where that’s not possible, Josh sources the best specialist growers in Europe for the job. Think citrus warmed by Sicilian sun, topiary trained by Dutch masters, almonds nourished in the Dordogne and bamboo bathed in Tuscan heat. Our handpicked growers nurture these plants to maturity before handing over to our team in the South Downs, to toughen them up for UK gardens.
