The highlights

  • Upright conical tree
  • Large tree - grows to more than 12m
  • Stunning single white flowers, glossy leaves
  • Fabulous autumn colour

Description

  • Also known as the Callery pear, this spectacular flowering tree provides unrivalled ornamental value with its bright white blossoms, glossy green foliage and spectacular autumn hues – which, combined with its conical shape, gives a flame-like appearance!
  • Although this tree can reach taller than 12m over time, it can be easily pruned smaller, making it a good choice for gardens of any size (especially thanks to its narrow, upright habit). Tolerant of pollution, this tree is particularly well-suited to urban and avenue planting schemes.
  • Small brown fruits are produced during the autumn months, providing food for birds like starlings and mammals like squirrels. Plus, the springtime blossoms are attractive to pollinating insects like bees and butterflies.
  • Fully hardy (H6) and easy to grow, ‘Chanticleer’ is a tree that undoubtedly deserves a place in your garden. Though this specific variety originates in Ohio, USA, the Callery pear is actually native to Vietnam and China. Its wood has long been prized for use in crafting woodwind instruments.
  • Planting companion plants (also known as guild plants) around your pear tree, such as chives, comfrey and borage, can help your tree flourish in the longer term.

What To Expect

Supplied as:

Bare Root
Our trees are supplied as “bare roots” meaning that the roots of the trees are established below the ground but not actively growing (dormant) between November and March. As bare roots are stored without any soil or pot, they would easily settle themselves when in contact with soil in your garden. Don't panic if your tree is not shwoing any sign of growth above the ground comes April, as it's still in the dormant phase.
9L Eco Pot
This tree is supplied in a 9L Eco Pot, which is approx D15 x H30cm. Eco Pots use 70% less plastic then traditional pots and can be recycled easily. A 9L pot allows ample space for good root development and can support a good size tree.
