The highlights

  • Grows up to 3m - ideal for small gardens
  • Clusters of pink-flushed flower bracts
  • Spectacular autumn foliage
  • RHS Award of Garden Merit winner

Description

  • Wavy green, maroon flushed leaves which gradually change to shades of vibrant crimson from late summer onwards and become intensely red in the autumn. The clusters of large flower bracts (2.5-5cm across) are creamy white, maturing to a soft pink picotee edge and are followed in autumn by red, strawberry-like fruits. These are edible but the skin is tough and unpalatable!
  • Flowers from May to June
  • A hardy, low maintenance deciduous tree with a broadly conical form
  • Compact size - 1.8-2.4m tall, ideal for smaller gardens
  • Provides all-year round interest to your garden with colours for each season
  • Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth.MORE

How To Grow

Excellent pest and disease resistance

This tree is generally unaffected by pests and diseases and has excellent resistance to anthracnose.

Water regularly during growing season

Water the tree regularly throughout the growing season. The tree is drought tolerant once established, and also tolerant of flooding

Full sun to partial shade

Plant in a sunny, sheltered position. This tree will tolerate a little partial shade but will flower best in full sun (Around 6 hours of sunlight per day)

Neutral to acid well-drained soil

Prefers loamy, neutral to acid soil but will grow in any soil as long as it is well drained. If your soil is heavier, mix in some perlite or horticultural grit during planting, to help with drainage.

Feed in spring

After planting your tree add some slow release, general purpose fertiliser and mulch around the tree to ensure all the water and nutrients get to the roots. Over time, replace the mulch and feed the tree with slow release fertiliser annually in spring to help the plant maintain its growth and health. ?v=1613300929
