The highlights

  • Deliciously sweet and juicy
  • RHS Award of Garden Merit winner
  • Rustle up a raspberry and thyme jam
  • Harvest from early July

Description

  • The taste of a ripe raspberry fresh from the plant is seriously hard to beat, and 'Malling Jewel' raspberries are some of the finest-flavoured around!
  • There's nothing worse than looking forward to your bumper raspberry harvest only to find you've missed the boat and you're left with a mushy mess. With 'Malling Jewel', however, there's much less chance of that happening as the fruits of this summer-fruiting (floricane) variety retain their firmness on the bush for up to a week after ripening.
  • Eat your raspberries fresh, use them in jams and compotes, or bake them into crumbles, cakes and pies. Don't worry if you've got a surplus, you can always freeze the extras.
  • This plant has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit as well as being certified as one of its Plants for Pollinators, so you know you're getting something seriously good.
  • Tie your raspberry canes into a freestanding wire setup to help give them a little bit of extra support - it'll also make picking easier, too!

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Displays good resistance to various problems, including root rot and viral infection.

Water regularly

Raspberry plants prefer that their soil is kept consistently moist. We'd recommend that you water your plant(s) routinely throughout the growing season, and particularly during prolonged periods of hot, dry weather. Raspberry plants grown in containers require even more regular watering. When watering your plant, aim to water at its base, keeping the foliage, flowers and fruit dry where possible (this helps mitigate against the risk of fungal disease).

Full sun

Grows best in a fully sunny spot (at least six hours of direct sunlight per day).

Any moist, well-drained soil

Plant your raspberry canes in fertile, moist, well-drained soil that leans on the acidic side.

Feed every spring

An application of fertiliser (something high in potassium works well) during spring will help your raspberry cane(s) grow better.
