The highlights

  • Broadly spreading tree
  • Medium tree – grows up to 8m
  • Pendulous yellow racemes up to 50cm long
  • Award of Garden Merit winner

Description

  • We may not be inherently ‘blingy’ people here at Roots, but we’re absolutely in love with these golden chains! We’d wager this tree is significantly cheaper than anything from a  Hatton Garden jeweller, too…
  • This deciduous sensation produces myriad canary-yellow, cascading flower sprays in May and June, providing your garden with an instant jolt of cheery sunshine
  • The deep green, trifoliate leaves provide a wonderful backdrop against which the showy blooms can really glimmer and shine
  • Growing to a height and spread of 8m, this tree is perfect for medium to large gardens, and works as a wonderful feature tree for the heart of the lawn
  • Our potted trees are supplied in EcoPots™. Eco pots use 70% less plastic and are fully recyclable, unlike normal single use pots. They flex and so produce less root spiralling and travel better in the post
  • Our trees are usually between 18 and 36 months old at the time of dispatch
  • Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth

What To Expect

Supplied as:

Bare Root
Our trees are supplied as “bare roots” meaning that the roots of the trees are established below the ground but not actively growing (dormant) between November and March. As bare roots are stored without any soil or pot, they would easily settle themselves when in contact with soil in your garden. Don't panic if your tree is not showing any sign of growth above the ground comes April, as its still in the dormant phase.
9L Eco Pot
This tree is supplied in a 9L Eco Pot, which is approx D15 x H30cm. Eco Pots use 70% less plastic then traditional pots and can be recycled easily. A 9L pot allows ample space for good root development and can support a good size tree.

How To Grow

High Pest/Disease resistance

Generally pest and disease resistant. May be susceptible to root rot when over-watered and allowed to sit in wet soil. May also be susceptible to Canker,MORE

Full Sun

Position in Full Sun (6h+)

Moist but well-drained soil

Can grow in almost any moist but well-drained soil, from sandy to clay and from acidic to slightly alkaline

Prune Annually

Only prune a young Golden Rain Tree for health not for shape as it is naturally thin with uneven growth in its early stages. The only pruning that should be done is removing lower limbs that are dead or any limbs that cross other limbs and touch. Do not cut branches flush with the tree or right against the trunk as it will delay the healing process and allow damaging insects and disease to enter the tree
