The highlights

  • Fabulous levels of sweetness
  • Fruits on first-year canes
  • Mix with strawberries in a summer salad
  • Pick from August to October

Description

  • "Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate" - Captain Jack Sparrow, presumably talking about this brilliant, autumn-fruiting raspberry variety!
  • Producing wonderfully juicy, large red raspberries from the end of summer well into the autumn months, 'Autumn Treasure' comprises spine-free canes, meaning that, when it comes to harvesting your crop, you won't need to break out the first aid kit plasters...
  • Another benefit of autumn-fruiting raspberries is that they don't usually require support, which makes them a fabulous choice for container growing or for gardens where constructing a support isn't practical.
  • Certified by the RHS as one of its Plants for Pollinators, raspberry plants like 'Autumn Treasure' attract bees with their pollen-rich flowers (which are highly attractive in their own right).
  • Primocane varieties fruit on the current year's canes, so it's important to get your pruning right. Cut back all the fruited stems right to the ground around February time, so that new shoots will grow the following spring. Those new canes are what will bear the following year's fruit.

How To Grow

Excellent pest and disease resistance

Very rarely impacted by any pests or diseases.

Water regularly

Raspberry plants are pretty big drinkers and ask that their soil be kept consistently moist; water regularly throughout the growing season and especially when the weather is hot and dry. Raspberry plants grown in containers require even more regular watering. When watering, aim to water at the plant's base, keeping the foliage, flowers and fruit dry if possible (this decreases the risk of fungal diseases occurring).

Full sun to partial shade

Best fruiting will occur when planted somewhere that your raspberry plant will receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day, however the plant will still tolerate some shade.

Any fertile, moist, well-drained soil

Grows well in most soil types provided they're well-draining, though it might struggle more in particularly chalky soil.

Feed every spring

If growing in the ground, apply a fertiliser with a high potassium content every spring, and use a liquid feed as per the manufacturer's instructions if growing your 'Autumn Treasure' raspberry plant in a container.
