How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Can have issues with slugs and caterpillars. The best way to deal with caterpillars is to remove them by hand and spray the area with soapy water. For slugs and snails, keep the area around the plant debris free and as dry as possible, especially at night as slugs and snails love damp conditions. You can use barriers such as crushed egg shells, grit or copper wire to surround the plant - these will prevent slugs and snails from reaching the leaves. Anemones can also suffer from anemone smuts - this is a fungal disease which appears as spots, blisters or dark spores. If this is found, the affected plants should be destroyed and if grown in greenhouses, these should be disinfected.

Water well in summer

This plant needs nothing more than rain water throughout most of the year. During hot, prolonged dry periods in summer however, you may have to give the plant a good watering several times a week. If the plant starts to look distressed and the soil around it is very dry, then give the plant some more water and check up on it the next day.

Full sun to partial shade

Plant somewhere where the plant will receive around six hours of direct sunlight every day and a little afternoon shade.

Any fertile, well-drained soil

Anemones prefer fertile, well-drained soil but will be fine in any normal well-drained soil. If your soil is particularly poor or clay heavy, add some garden compost with perlite to improve drainage.

Feeding not needed

This plant doesn't need feeding - you could add some mulch after pruning if desired.
