Description

  • If you want tomatoes and you want them big, then you've come to the right place... With each 'Supersteak' tomato weighing up to 500g (and often even heavier), you'll work up an appetite just picking them!
  • With a fabulous meaty texture and sumptuous fresh taste, these titans of the tomato world are perfect for slicing up and using in burgers or a buffalo mozzarella salad
  • An indeterminate tomato variety, this plant will continue to produce its huge red fruit all summer long, and well into autumn. As a cordon tomato plant, it will need (beef)staking to ensure it remains upright.
  • Once the last risk of frost has passed, you can plant your tomato plant outside in an allotment, raised bed or border - make sure you choose a sunny, sheltered spot. Alternatively, you can grow your tomato plant indoors in a greenhouse
  • Our premium tomato plants are grown by specialist veg experts on a family-run farm, in Lancashire, and sent to you at the very best time for planting in the garden
  • RHS Award of Garden Merit winner
  • Growing your own gives you healthy, fresh produce with a lower carbon plantprint than anything you can buy from a shop. Speaking of shops... Beefsteak tomatoes are notoriously difficult to get from the supermarket so your best option really is to DIY!
  • Incredibly easy to grow and care for, this beefsteak variety tomato plant should give you your first crop after 8-12 weeks

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

The main pests and diseases that affect tomatoes are whitefly, aphids and tomato blight. It is important to look out for yellow and curling leaves or rotting fruit as a sign of these. You can prevent blight by keeping leaves away from the soil and also keeping the leaves as dry as possible. If you find whitefly or aphids on your plant try spraying them off with water. You can also plant marigolds which will attract natural predators such as ladybirds which will eat the pests.

Water regularly

Tomatoes are thirsty plants! Water the plants regularly to keep the ground constantly moist. If you are unsure, feel the soil with your hand. If it feels dry up to a fingernail deep then you can give the plant a watering. During very hot, dry spells you may have to water up to twice a day.

Full sun

Tomatoes need to be planted in full sun. This should be somewhere where they will receive 6-8 hours of sunlight every day.

Any fertile, moist, well-draining soil

Thrives in any moist but well-drained soil. If your soil is particularly clay-heavy and/or often becomes waterlogged then you can improve the drainage by adding in plenty of organic matter such as garden compost as well as some perlite or gravel.

Feed regularly

From the time the flowers first appear, feed your tomato plant(s) with a tomato fertiliser every fortnight. You can also improve your soil's nutrient content by mixing in some compost or well rotted manure before planting.
