The highlights

  • Patio tree with pendulous, weeping branches
  • Small tree - grows up to 1.5m (when pruned)
  • Bronze to green foliage, double pink blossoms
  • Low-maintenance and fully hardy

Description

  • Cherry blossoms are (rightly) among the most popular ornamental trees, but many people think they don't have the room for one. Think again...
  • We've taken a naturally dwarf weeping variety, 'Kiku-shidare-zakura', and trained it in such a way that you can grow your own cherry blossom from a sunny patio or balcony!
  • With a quick and easy yearly prune, you can keep your tree to just 1.5m (or shorter) in height, meaning even the most space-limited of gardens can enjoy the delightful springtime blossoms.
  • From April, the pendulous, weeping branches bear abundant double blossoms in pastel and carnation pink, while the green leaves take on wonderful bronze and orange hues come autumn.
  • Please note that young trees often don't have a weeping shape, particularly when they arrive early in the year after being pruned - but hold tight and that unique form will develop over time.

How To Grow

Average pest and disease resistance

On the pest side of things, your tree may need protection from caterpillars, leaf-mining moths and bullfinches. In terms of disease, your patio cherry blossom tree can be affected by silver leaf and blossom wilt.

Full sun

Grow in full sun (your tree should receive at least six hours of direct sunlight per day).

Moist, well-drained compost

Your patio cherry blossom tree will benefit from being planted in moist, well-drained compost (we'd suggest John Innes No. 3).

Europe

Meet Josh's trusted specialists

Start with a touch of continental sun

Over 99% of our plants are grown in the UK, but where that’s not possible, Josh sources the best specialist growers in Europe for the job. Think citrus warmed by Sicilian sun, topiary trained by Dutch masters, almonds nourished in the Dordogne and bamboo bathed in Tuscan heat. Our handpicked growers nurture these plants to maturity before handing over to our team in the South Downs, to toughen them up for UK gardens.
