How To Grow

Excellent pest and disease resistance

Generally suffers from no diseases. Young plants may be targeted by slugs and snails - keep the area around the plant debris free and as dry as possible, especially at night as slugs and snails love damp conditions. You can use barriers such as egg shells or copper wire to surround the plant to prevent slugs and snails reaching the leaves.

Water often in summer

During hot and prolonged dry periods, as well as the plant's first year, it is important to ensure that the ground is kept consistently moist. This can require watering several times a week or perhaps even daily during very hot spells. Once the plant has established itself it will become more drought tolerant but still the ground should not be allowed to dry up too much for too long.

Full sun

Jasione does best in a sheltered spot with around 6-8 hours of sunlight daily.

Fertile, well-drained soil

Mix in plenty of organic matter such as garden compost into the soil before planting and more every spring. If your soil is particularly clay-heavy and easily becomes waterlogged, add some perlite into the soil to improve drainage.

Feed lightly

Feed with a slow-release general fertiliser in the Spring to improve plant vigour and blooms. ?v=1613300929
