The highlights

  • Curving, bell-shaped single flowers
  • Pruning group 1 - no pruning
  • Full sun, half hardy (H3)
  • Flowers December to February

Description

  • Let the chimes ring out for these glorious, bell-shaped blooms! This clematis flowers throughout the winter months, instantly cheering up even the dreariest of winter days
  • Set against a backdrop of dense, deep green foliage, the pendulous flowers (blooming from December to February) comprise four linen-white, velvet-textured petals which recurve gracefully with age
  • This climber is a fantastic choice for patio container growing, and will look sublime when trained up an obelisk or trellis. Alternatively, you can grow it against a south-facing wall and let it bask in the winter sun
  • An evergreen variety, this clematis will retain its alluring, dark olive green foliage throughout the year. Half-hardy in nature, 'Winter Beauty' prefers a sheltered spot and may require some additional winter protection if planted outdoors
  • Pruning group 1 - a variety of clematis that flowers early and doesn't require any routine pruning
  • Please Note: Our climbers are pruned back each winter, and some during the summer, so you may find at certain times of year they do not cover the whole 90cm cane. This is intentional to ensure the best growth when you plant out

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Can, on occasion, be affected by aphids and caterpillars. If you see them, remove them by wiping them off with a damp cloth and spraying the affected area with soapy water to prevent a recurrence. You can help avoid clematis wilt by ensuring your plants have the correct balance of nutrients. Dig in a generous amount of compost when first planting, and mulch around the base of the plant during the autumn.

Keep Moist And Water During Dry Spells

Water frequently while the plant is getting established, and always keep moist. Once established, the plant won't need watering as regularly - usually only if it's a prolonged dry spell.

Full sun

This clematis likes a spot in full sun (6+ hours of daily sunlight) but will benefit from being planted in a sheltered position.

Any moist, well-drained soil

This clematis variety will grow well in most soil types providing well-drained. If your soil is heavy or clay-based, mix in some fine horticultural grit or perlite when planting, to help with aeration and drainage.

Feed every spring

Feed at least once annually, and up to 2-3 times a year, using a potassium-rich fertiliser (or rose feed) to promote greater flower growth.
