Acer platanoides 'Drummondii' | Variegated Maple Tree
The Highlights
- Few trees are as impactful or striking as this fast-growing, variegated Norway maple; its abundant moss-green leaves are bordered by delicate, eggshell-cream margins, adding visual texture and interest wherever it’s planted
- In autumn, the tree’s foliage takes on ember-like shades of yellow and orange, warming your garden as the temperatures (and leaves) start to drop
- Growing to an impressive 12 metres tall, this show-stopping tree is perfect for more spacious gardens that currently feel a bit on the empty side
- During springtime, before the emergence of its leaves, the tree becomes wreathed in small yellow flower clusters, further adding to its already sizable ornamental appeal
- Easy to grow, incredibly hardy and tolerant of many different soil conditions, this tree really doesn’t put a foot wrong!
- Our potted trees are supplied in EcoPots™. Eco pots use 70% less plastic and are fully recyclable, unlike normal single use pots. They flex and so produce less root spiralling and travel better in the post
- Our trees are usually between 18 and 36 months old at the time of dispatch
- Our trees are professionally pruned before dispatching. This formative pruning can involve cutting the main leader, if the expert tree growers decide this will produce a better shaped tree. This can stop the tree becoming "leggy", and promote stronger, bushier growth

Care Guide
Excellent pest and disease resistance
Acers encounter few problems with pests and diseases. They may be susceptible to aphids, which can be washed off by spraying with soapy water.MORE
Full sun to partial shade
Position where the tree will receive at least 4-6 hours of sunlight every day during summer and spring. This variety can handle partial shade where it receives its light as dappled shade.
Any soil type except heavy clay
Acer Drummondii is tolerant of most soils and conditions, including poorly drained soil. It prefers moist, fertile soil.
Prune lightly
Acer trees do not require a lot of pruning. Remove any damaged or diseased branches when the tree is in leaf or just after leaf fall. This will prevent bleeding, which although it is not detrimental, can look unsightly. When pruning, make sure to maintain an even framework.
