The highlights

  • Peppery without being overwhelming
  • Grows at lightning pace
  • Pickle with vinegar and sugar
  • Plant from spring, harvest soon after

Description

  • "What do I know of man's destiny? I could tell you more about radishes." - Samuel Beckett, presumably as big a fan of radishes as we are (spoilers: we're big fans)
  • 'Cherry Belle' must have somewhere to be because *boy* does it grow quick! Undoubtedly one of the best salad radish varieties out there, with wonderful candy-red, edible taproots and bushy green leaves, 'Cherry Belle' is as easy to grow as it is delicious to eat
  • Ready to harvest just a few weeks after planting, these radishes have a mildly peppery flavour that adds a definite radishy oomph without ever veering into overpowering territory
  • Pickle your radishes, add them to salads or roast and serve as a sumptuous side
  • Radishes are great for getting kids involved in gardening for the first time thanks to their super speedy growth - we're supposedly in an era of instant gratification, after all!
  • Perfect for filling gaps in your vegetable plot, you can just as easily grow these radishes in deep pots on your patio or balcony
  • Stored in the fridge, your radishes will last for a couple of weeks, whilst they'll last for half a year or so when kept in the freezer

How To Grow

Good pest and disease resistance

Radishes like 'Cherry Belle' can be affected by flea beetles, slugs and snails, and cabbage root fly, which can be mitigated against by using brassica collars (also known as cabbage collars). To reduce the risk of downy mildew, space your plants adequately and avoid splashing water on the leaves.

Water regularly

Radish plants appreciate their soil being kept consistently moist so regular watering is recommended, especially in hot weather.

Full sun to partial shade

Grows best in full sun (at least 6 hours direct sunlight) but will still grow nicely enough in partial shade.

Any moist, well-drained soil

Plant your radishes in looser soil with good drainage.

No feeding needed

Radish plants don't require any additional fertilisation.
